Qatar’s hospitality sector serves residents and visitors all year, with busy periods during the winter season, major sporting and cultural events, conferences, Ramadan and Eid. Recruiting the right team at the right time is the foundation of good guest service.
Plan your requirement early
Start with a staffing plan for the season or opening. List each position, the number of people, the shift pattern, the language skills and the start date. Recruitment from abroad needs time for selection, visas, medical checks and travel, so plan backwards from your opening or peak date.
The roles hospitality businesses recruit most
- Housekeeping: room attendants, housekeepers, laundry and public area staff
- Food and beverage: waiters, waitresses, baristas and banquet servers
- Kitchen: commis cooks, line cooks, kitchen helpers and stewards
- Front of house: hosts, receptionists and guest relations
- Events and catering: event crews and catering teams
Screening for service quality
Beyond experience, assess communication in English, presentation, attitude and the ability to work under pressure. Short video interviews and practical questions about real service situations reveal more than a CV alone.
Labour law basics for hospitality employers
Hospitality staff work under Qatar’s Labour Law No. 14 of 2004. Normal working time is up to 48 hours a week, reduced during Ramadan, with overtime paid at a premium and a weekly rest day. The Minimum Wage Law sets a basic wage of at least QAR 1,000 per month, plus allowances of at least QAR 500 for housing and QAR 300 for food when the employer does not provide them. Salaries are paid through the Wage Protection System.
Fair recruitment
Workers must not pay recruitment fees. Choosing a recruitment partner that follows fair recruitment practices protects your brand, reduces turnover and helps new staff settle quickly.
Onboarding that keeps people
- Prepare accommodation, uniforms and transport before arrival
- Run a clear induction on service standards, safety and local culture
- Pair new joiners with experienced team members for the first weeks
- Review performance and wellbeing regularly and early
